San Leandro: Man fatally shot in apparent road-rage incident

SAN LEANDRO — As his wife and other relatives looked on in horror, a man was fatally shot inside his vehicle Sunday night in an apparent case of road rage, police said Monday.

No one else was injured.

The man’s name was not released.

Police said that about 9:47 p.m. Sunday 911 calls reporting gunshots in the area of Marina Boulevard and Verna Court were received.

While officers were responding to those calls, police also received call from the 2500 block of Merced Street, reporting a woman screaming for help in the Kaiser Hospital parking lot.

At the hospital, officers found the man seated in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. A woman, who identified herself as the man’s wife, and other family members were also in the vehicle, police said.

Officers and emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures on the man but he was pronounced dead.

Officers later discovered evidence of a shooting in the 1900 block of Marina Boulevard, about a half-mile north of the hospital and said the shooting was possibly the result of a road-rage incident.

No other details were released.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call police at 510-577-3230.

Check back for updates.
