Nnamdi Kanu’s family faults Abia CP Anthony Ogbizi’s claims over arms recovery

http://ift.tt/2yqv0ST

Family of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has faulted claims by Abia State Commissioner of Police, Anthony Michael Ogbizi, that police recovered lethal weapons when they raided their compound at Afara Ukwu on October 8 together with soldiers from 14 Brigade, Ohafia.

Abia new commissioner of police had claimed during a press briefing in Umuahia on Thursday that lethal weapons including petrol bombs and one double-barrel gun were recovered during the raid. The spokesman for the family Prince Emmanuel Kanu in a telephone chat with journalists however denied that the family had any gun in the house, adding that if actually there was any gun the police found, it was planted by them during the first raid.

“This new CP was the same man who came to our house two days after the September 14 invasion with two Hilux vans and his Prado SUV and pulled down the car porch and destroyed the vehicles parked outside.“This same CP hurriedly after the invasion on the October 8, issued a press release telling the whole world that they discovered bombs in my house. The army on the other hand, denied that there was no invasion and that they never went to my house, what a contradiction.

“A house that there has not been any person inside except our guard who we asked to look after the house, all of a sudden they invaded the house and came back to say they found a den gun, double barrel gun and petrol bomb. Who manufactured them? Who kept them there? That is the question to ask.”While denying that there was anything incriminating found in their home, the family accused Mr. Ogbizi of fabricating the story to justify what he described as illegal raiding of their compound and also to appear as if he was working in order to please his masters.

The younger Kanu said what the police came to do in the home was to remove the CCTV which he said had been recording what the military and police had been doing in their house.

“The policemen came to our house and ransacked the entire compound including my mum and my father’s rooms, removing my mum’s boxes, our TV and generator sets, bags of rice and many personal belongings without knowing that we had a CCTV recording their activities in the house. But when they got clue about the CCTV and in order to concoct whatever that they would present to the public to label our family bad, they came back and removed the CCTV from where they were hung.

“I am telling the international community to prevail on this people. What the Police and other security agencies are doing in my house, my community, in my state and the entire Biafran Land is evil. It is clear that out of desperation, they are trying to cover their tracks and they have failed. “Nobody can tag IPOB a terrorist organization. We don’t carry arms and arms never solved any dispute. They should engage IPOB leadership genuinely. We are not violent. We don’t give life and we can’t take one. They have rubbished the name of the country called Nigeria, that’s why we are called Biafrans.

“They invaded the house and took away the CCTV now they said that they discovered petrol bomb and the rest of it, when we had only one person in the house. How possible is that? Who planted them?”He said if there was any bomb in their house, it was planted by the police the day they came on the October 8, adding that the police did not arrest any technician involved in bomb making, but their guard called Chukwu.

Kanu further stated, “If Ogbizi was serving in his Cross River State, he wouldn’t have raided the palace of the Obong of Calabar under any guise the way hew raid my father’s palace and boasted he would raid it again, this can only happen in Igbo land.“And let me tell you something, the reason they removed the former CP (Adeleye Oyebade) was that he knew that IPOB has been non-violent in their activities and he stood on the side of truth, he refused to be compromised that was why they removed him and brought this one from Cross River State who is on a mission he will never accomplish.”

Backwash from nursing babies may trigger infection fighters

http://ift.tt/2yDmMaO

The act of breast-feeding conjures up images of tranquil bonding. It’s a special time for mothers and babies to snuggle close. And sure, sometimes it’s like that. But speaking from the trenches, I submit that there are some aspects that are not-so-picturesque. Sore nipples. Bite marks. And the latest case in point: Baby backwash.

That’s right, backwash, as in baby spit that gets slurped back into a nursing mother’s breast. I recently heard about this backwash in an article in The Stranger about breast milk written by a food writer and nursing mother. In addition to describing breast milk’s palate-pleasing flavor profiles, the article details some of the immune factors that help keep breast-fed babies healthy. This is where the backwash comes in.

Part of the immunity that breast milk imparts, it seems, may depend in part on a mixture of milk and baby saliva flowing upstream. This backwash may actually cause a mother’s body to create made-to-order immune factors that are delivered back to the baby in milk, some scientists think. So far, that concept remains a hypothesis, cautions biologist Katie Hinde of Arizona State University in Tempe, “but one that remains very likely given all that we know about physiology.”

Scientists caught the backward flow of milk by watching as milk-associated fat globules moved from near the nipple to farther back in the breast in a 2004 ultrasound study. Although that retro flow hasn’t been directly observed while a baby feeds, it’s likely that the same thing happens during a nursing session. Through this backwash, the baby may be placing an order that helps a mother’s body cook up special-ordered germ-fighting milk, cell biologist Foteini Kakulas (formerly Hassiotou) at the University of Western Australia in Crawley and colleagues believe.

In a series of experiments, Kakulas and her colleagues have found that mother’s milk rapidly changes in response to a baby’s infections. Breast milk usually contains a small number of infection-busting cells called leukocytes. When a baby (or a mother) is sick, the numbers of leukocytes in breast milk spike, Kakulas and colleagues reported in 2013 in Clinical and Translational Immunology.

Colostrum, an early form of milk that babies get in the first few days after birth, is packed with leukocytes. As babies get older, leukocytes in breast milk naturally wane if everybody’s healthy. When an infection appears, leukocyte levels come roaring back again. And this isn’t a trifling increase. During times of illness, a breast-feeding baby may gulp down billions of these cells a day, Kakulas and Donna Geddes, also of the University of Western Australia, estimated in a 2015 review in Advances in Nutrition. This leukocyte blast contains a mix of specialized cells that move from milk into the baby’s body. Some of these cells fight pathogens directly by gobbling them up or producing antibodies. Other cells come pre-programmed to fight germs that a mother had previously tangled with, transferring a memory that helps the baby’s immune system get established, animal studies have found.

Backwash may be one way that sick babies call for these leukocytes. Because this backwash relies on mouth-on-nipple action, that has implications for mothers who exclusively pump breast milk for their babies. Pumping moms may have a slightly blunted response to a baby’s infection, though that idea hasn’t been studied yet, Kakulas notes.

But pumping moms, don’t worry. Anyone who has spent time with a baby knows that there are lots of other opportunities for fluids — and information about germs — to be exchanged. As just one example, my baby drooled directly into my open mouth last week. Compared with the other ways babies get fluids into and onto their parents, baby spit backwash doesn’t even seem that disgusting. It’s just another way for my baby’s body to get a message into mine.

Court orders banks to unfreeze Peace Corps accounts

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

John Ojogu, filed a motion on notice on behalf of Peace Corps , dated July 5, 2017, praying that the court will vacate its post-no-debit order (freezing) its accounts. Peace Corps prayed for an order directing Diamond Bank, and Stanbic IBTC to unfreeze its accounts.

Delivering ruling on the applicant’s motion on notice, the court relied on the sole issue formulated by James Idachaba, counsel to the Police. The issue was: “Whether the ex-parte order made by the court on June 23, 2017 is not liable to be discharged or vacated by the court.’’

Justice Tsoho described the arguments of Idachaba, counsel to Police, in urging the court to dismiss the application of Peace Corps as “great effort without effect.” The court held that the motion ex-parte dated June 13, was filed in bad fate and amounted to gross abuse of court process.

The judge noted that the Police did not controvert the affidavit evidence of Peace Corps that facts were suppressed and issues misrepresented by the Police to obtain the ex-parte order. The judge held that the Police suppressed facts and misrepresented issues before securing the ex-parte order.

He said the police lawyer failed to show in his affidavit in support of the motion ex-parte how the Attorney-General of the Federation authorised him to act on his behalf.

“This inconsistent posturing of the Police adversely affected the validity of the ex- parte order granted by this court on June 23, 2017, Tsoho said. In addition, the court agreed with the submissions of counsel to Peace Corps that an “interim order” must be short.

“I therefore hold that if the Police desired anything more, it should not have come to this court by way of motion ex-parte, but through motion on notice, seeking an injunction, Tsoho added.

In view of this, “the interim order made by this court on June 23, 2017 has been discharged; the order is set aside.’’

TSTV Africa rolls out 1 November 2017

TSTV Africa

TSTV Africa, will begin commercial operation on 1st of Nov 2017. Managing Director, Mr Bright Echefu, made this known while briefing newsmen on Saturday  in Abuja. He added that TSTV would launch its services with about one million decoders nationwide.

He said that at least 5,000 TSTV decoders will be released free to the public, also the first set of decoders will come with one month free subscription to test run its services.

“Commercialization of our decoders will resume officially on Nov. 1 and by that time, every part of Nigeria would have TSTV decoders for people to buy. We are releasing about one million which can go round and our target for the first quarter is one million units”.

“In every quarter we will bring one million units and we are targeting four million units within the next one year. I can tell you categorically that some decoders will be released next week for Nigerians to test and we are going to cover the 36 states of the federation, These decoders are going to be free and it close to 5,000 units to test and that will last for two weeks,’’ he said.

Echefu disclosed that the delay in releasing the decoders to the public was to ensure that dealers were properly scrutinized so that the decoders do not fall into the wrong hands. He explained that the decoder would be sold to Nigerians at a subsidized rate.According to him, the landing cost of the decoder is N28,000.

We don’t want a situation where someone would pick our decoders and dump them somewhere. That is why we are very careful because of competition. We have received well over 6,000 applications and it has been overwhelming processing these people; but so far, we have been able to accredit more than 748 dealers and we have received applications from more than 3,000 of them.

“That is why we have not commercialized our services even though we are the ones losing because we have enough decoders to cover the whole of Nigeria. But it will be unfair with all the money put in for us to give decoders out and those decoders don’t get to the end users,’’ Echefu added.

TSTV boss said that measures had been put in place to ensure its sustainability in terms of services, pledging that the organisation would be envied by many Nigerians in the next ten years. He disclosed that the organisation currently has 250 staff on direct employment, while it expects about 10000 to be engaged indirectly at take off.

According to him, TSTV has improved on its transmission facilities to overcome weather challenges while expressing happiness over the acceptance by Nigerians. He praised the Federal Government for the three year tax relief granted to the company to encourage more investors to come to Nigeria.

He said that the company would consolidate on the new tax policy to grow its business in the country and recoup its investment. On the alleged copyright infringement on two international content providers, Turner Broadcasting System and beIN sports, Echefu said the company entered into partnership agreement with every concerned organisation.

Bayelsa Govt: No cause for alarm over outbreak of “monkey pox” virus.

http://ift.tt/2y1LQGU

http://ift.tt/2y1LQGU

The state’s Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenogoa that the state government was on top of the situation.
Etebu said that the government had contained the outbreak and commenced public sensitisation to curtail spread of the virus. He added that the focus of the enlightenment was enhanced personal hygiene and vigilance with wild animals, the primary vectors of the virus. The commissioner said “the situation is under control but we are taking further steps to enlighten the public about personal hygiene and to be careful with any wild animals around them. “We are harping on increased washing of hands.
“We are also working with Veterinary Unit of Ministry of Agriculture to increase surveillance at abattoirs where animals are slaughtered for human consumption.” Etebu disclosed that 11 persons, including a medical doctor, had been quarantined at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), Okolobiri in Yenagoa Local Government Area.
He said samples of the virus had been sent to World Health Organisation reference laboratory in Dakar for confirmation. He explained that “as the name implies, the virus was first seen in monkeys but can also be found in all bush animals such as rats, squirrels and antelopes, and that is why our surveillance on edible animals has to be heightened.
“The source is usually animals. It was first seen in monkeys and that is why it is called monkey pox.“Secretions from particularly dead animals are highly contagious, so also the fluids from infected persons.”The commissioner recalled that the first index case came from Agbura in Yenagoa where somebody was purported to have killed and ate monkey meat and started developing rashes. DELTA LINE TO BOUNCE BACK

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Delta Line has been a financial drainage pipe for the state government and nothing concrete was done to stop massive stealing of government funds by some highly corrupt and unpatriotic staff of the company. Delta Line is not a charitable motor company. It was set up to run as a profit making corporate going concern essentially to cater for the transportation of passengers, goods and services at a fair tariff and in the same token make substantial annual profit for its owners, the Delta State Government and by extention the good people of the state. To the contrary, Delta Line over the years became “no man’s business” where unscrupulous elements within the company enriched themselves with proceeds from sale of tickets and other sources of income. Vehicles in its fleet were mismanaged devoid of maintenance culture resulting in the massive depletion of serviceable buses. The projected financial gains from several billions of Naira pumped into Delta Line crashed into private pockets. While private transport companies like God Is Good Motors, Agofure Motors, Edegbe Line, Greener Line and others were declaring huge profits and increasing their fleets and routes every year, Delta Line remained a lame dock and a problematic bankrupt organisation. The long history of acute operational and management failures as a result of massive corruption in Delta Line prompted forensic investigations into the affairs of the company by the Okowa administration. The result was highly discouraging and painful considering the wasted billions of Naira of tax payers money plunged into the bottomless pit of the transport company. The present administration under Gov Okowa after critical analysis of the epileptic services occasioned by embezzlement of government huge investments decided to settle for the best option of public-private partnership. The state government recently signed the joint ownership agreement on a 60-40 equity participation basis with the management of Good Is Good Motors. The new arrangement places the professional and efficient management of Delta Line in the competent corporate hands of GIGM. The private sector partner will expand the fleet and also deploy Mercedes Benz 15-seaters executive buses branded in Delta Line corporate colours. The new managers shall apply standard corporate policies with centralised checks and balances in the financial accounting protocol such that the leakages and financial recklessness will become alien to the motor company.

Coping with long distance relationship

http://ift.tt/2xXSWN4

http://ift.tt/2xXSWN4

Long Distance relationship

Long distance relationship (LDR)is not easy to manage. But not easy does not mean it is impossible.A LDR can be compared to a candle flame. It can be quite fragile.
With a single blow or the simply the lack of oxygen, the candle flame will be out. But that doesn’t mean the candle flame cannot be protected. You just need to care with it by putting in more effort.
All LDR is the same thing. When it comes to managing a LDR, nothing is really impossible. It only depends on how much you love each other and how committed you are.
The great thing is today, technology have made communication much easier and cheaper. In the past, it used to cost a lot just to talk to your lover over the phone. Nowadays, with webcams and Skype, it is much cheaper to communicate with each other.
But that doesn’t mean it is any easier to manage a relationship over great distance. Ultimately, nothing can really be compared to physical presence. But there are still ways to spice up this kind of relationship.
A healthy relationship will always include a few critical ingredients. First and foremost, you need to trust each other. When your lover is a long distance away from you, you will never know what your lover is doing. Therefore, honesty is extremely important.
Unless you have some surprise for your lover, always inform him/her what you have been doing, even if you think it is just a very small and insignificant thing. You do not want any room for suspicion to occur.

The Sugar Crisis in our Body System.

http://ift.tt/2fD54Mv
Excessive sugar in our body cause numerous crisis. Namely: gangrene,
retinopathy, indigestion, constipation, neuropathy, numbness, atherosclerosis,
necross, thrombus, anemia, and hot flashing, etc.
Sugar crisis is uncountable when it has gone too high in the system, which is
called hyperglycemia. When this condition is not checked and allowed for long
period, it will result to another terrible crisis such as the total metabolic
defect, especially the endocrine system which is the second major controlling of
the body. Acting with the nervous system, it helps coordinate and integrate the
activity of the body cells.
However, the nervous system employs electro chemical impulses to bring about
rapid control, while the more slowly acting endocrine employs chemical
messengers or hormones, which are released into the blood to be transported
throughout the body. The term hormone comes from a Greek word meaning “to rose”.
The body’s hormones, which are steroid or amino acid based molecules arose the
body’s tissues and cells by stimulating changes in their metabolic activities.
These change lead to growth and development, and to the Physiological
homeostasis of many body systems.
Although all hormones are blood bond, a given hormone affect only the
biochemical  activity or a specific organ. Organs that respond to a particular
hormone are referred to as the target organ of the hormone. The  ability of the
target tissue to respond seems to depend on the ability of the hormones to bind
with specific receptor ‘proteins’ occurring on the cells plasma membrane or
within the cell. Although the function of some hormone producing glands, the
anterior pituitary, (thyroid, adrenals, parathyroid, is purely endocrine, the
function of other (the pancreas and gonads) is mixed- both endocrine
exocrine.
Both Types of glands are derived from epithelium, but the endocrine or
ductless gland releases their product(always hormonal) directly into the blood
or lymph. The excocrine release their product at the body surface of outside and
epithelial membrane via duct. in addition, they are varied numbers of hormone
producing cells within the intestines, stomach, kidney and placenta organs are
functions are primarily non-endocrine only the major endocrine organs are
considered here.
So when these complicated arrangement get knocked down by diabetes mellitus,
the whole body system also fall into terrible malfunction. Hence it has numerous
symptom of different disease in the metabolism. Solution whether type one or
type two diabetes, look for Super Seed A1 first of all before testing for these
or testing for that, and a specialist must be employed for intensive care.
When you look at the arrangement of endocrine system is like twin engine
block of any moveable vehicle. If an engine knocked down, the whole system
collapses, so it is on diabetes and all its complication on man. Try Super Seed for one week, two wee and three weeks, with proper supervision of its diet and
medication outlined above.
There must be  changes in the whole affairs as you discipline yourself. Type
one or type two has the same characteristic in the system. Scientist say type
one is genetic while type two is acquired or juvenile diabetes. These conditions
are not easy to handle, but with the new development clues around the world now,
scientifically and naturally, answer to diabetes crisis have stated to emerge.

Bayelsa Govt: No cause for alarm over outbreak of “monkey pox” virus.

http://ift.tt/2y1LQGU

CAC reduce cost of business registration

Corporate Affairs Commission  in Abuja have crashes the cost of business registration in Nigeria also simplified its process to enable small entrepreneurs to register their businesses.

With the CAC- Company Registration Portal (CRP), any member of the public could now register businesses on-line at the comfort of their homes and offices. This has drastically reduced the registration cost hitherto charged by professional middlemen (Lawyers, Accountants and Chartered Secretaries), in the registration process.

Entrepreneurs who had already registered their businesses have the obligation to file Annual Returns with the Commission as and when due.Failure to file Annual Returns will result to striking-off of such defaulting entities on ground of dormancy.
